It’s not every day that Saturday morning television gets a facelift, but the latest Power Rangers reboot is a VFX masterpiece that puts the original series to shame. Notably, in the latest Power Rangers trailer, we noticed a captivating new Zordon look and were curious about how to create such a look in After Effects.

In this quick tutorial, we’ll take a look at how to create a modern-day Zordon look in After Effects. The secret to the tutorial is really in the Card Dance effect in After Effects. When paired with a well-lit video plate, this technique can yield some pretty stunning results.

To light the tutorial, we simply placed a soft light above our subject and used a white bounce card to add some extra light to the eyes. Here’s a quick behind-the-scenes photo of how we got the shot.
